Kenneth J. Rosenthal, M.D, F.AC.SDr. Kenneth Rosenthal was born on October 1st, 1953, coinciding with the 50th birthday of Vladimir Horowitz. His parents took this to be a sign that Rosenthal might become a musical genius of similar stature. However, this hope did not come to fruition. What evolved in its modest stead was a musical passion that has lasted his entire life, and which has proved to be an essential part of his life.
His musical career began at the age of 6 when he began piano, composition and theory studies with Avraham Sternklar, a graduate of the Julliard School of Music and the first person to receive a masters degree in chamber music from that institution. Sternklar is an internationally known and acclaimed pianist and composer. Incredibly enough, Rosenthal has continued to study with Sternklar for 53 years! After studying at the Julliard School of Music, Dr. Rosenthal studied Biology at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was awared a B.S. degree. He attended Albany Medical College followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the North Shore University Hospital. In his final year he was honored by being elected Chief Resident. During this time he continue to take courses at Julliard. For 30 years, he has been the Surgeon Director of Rosenthal Eye Surgery and Facial plastic surgery in New York City and Great Neck, New York, and he continues to be one the most significant pioneers in performing innovative and complex eye surgery throughout the world. He continues to pursue the study of music and has performed before groups of colleagues including international eye surgery meetings. As the president and founder of the Iris and Rose Foundation, Dr. Rosenthal seeks to mesh his two passions, music and medicine…. www.eyesurgery.org Paul MoravecPaul Moravec, a current university professor at Adelphi University, and winner of the 2004 Pultizer Prize in music, will be joining us for a special preformanceon this special night.
